Dixième ville de Suisse, Bienne se définit par son caractère industriel, sa multiculturalité, son bilinguisme officiel ainsi que par une riche activité culturelle, en particulier dans l’espace public. Evénement majeur, l’Exposition suisse de sculpture, qui y a lieu depuis 1954, a laissé des traces dans les esprits, mais aussi et très concrètement dans le paysage urbain. À rythme régulier, cette exposition internationale offre la possibilité de mener un débat critique sur l’art dans l‘espace public.
En vue de la 14ème édition qui doit se tenir en 2024, le Conseil de fondation Expositions Suisses de Sculpture Bienne - Schweizerische Plastikausstellung Biel (ESS-SPA) lance un concours sélectif en deux étapes. Sont recherchés des projets d’artistes, curateurs-rices, équipes ou collectifs qui se réfèrent à l‘espace public de la ville de Bienne et qui s’inscrivent dans le cadre d’un discours artistique international contemporain. Ces projets peuvent également proposer une approche avant-gardiste et expérimentale.
Biel, die zehntgrösste Stadt der Schweiz, zeichnet sich durch ihren industriellen Charakter, ihre Multikulturalität, ihre offizielle Zweisprachigkeit sowie durch eine reiche kulturelle Aktivität, insbesondere im öffentlichen Raum, aus. Die Schweizer Plastikausstellung, die seit 1954 in der Stadt stattfindet, hat nicht nur in den Köpfen der Menschen Spuren hinterlassen, sondern auch ganz konkret im Stadtbild. In regelmässigem Rhythmus bietet diese internationale Ausstellung die Möglichkeit, eine kritische Debatte über Kunst im öffentlichen Raum zu führen.
Im Hinblick auf die 14. Ausgabe im Jahr 2024 schreibt der Stiftungsrat Expositions Suisses de Sculpture Bienne - Schweizerische Plastikausstellung Biel (ESS-SPA) einen selektiven, zweistufigen Wettbewerb aus. Gesucht werden Projekte von Künstlerinnen und Künstler, Kuratorinnen und Kuratoren, Teams oder Kollektiven, die sich auf den öffentlichen Raum der Stadt Biel beziehen und sich im Rahmen eines zeitgenössischen internationalen Kunstdiskurses bewegen. Diese Projekte können auch einen avantgardistischen und experimentellen Ansatz bieten – sollen aber auch in diesem Fall auf konkrete Orte, Institutionen, oder Communities der Stadt bezogen sein.

Projects by artists, curators, teams or collectives are sought that relate to the public space of the city of Biel and operate within the framework of contemporary international art discourse. These projects can offer avant-garde and experimental approaches, but should be related to concrete places, institutions, or communities of the city.
